In 2011, Harvard Graduate School of Design brought together three celebrated conceptual artists to present a high-profile exhibition of their work within this unique institution. In order to allow a wider audience to experience the project, as well as documenting its achievement, Harvard and Project Projects commissioned RMF to make three short films that captured the atmosphere of the installation. Shot by cinematographer Chris Dapkins.
Rob Meyer’s 2008 short film, Aquarium, was his graduate thesis project at NYU’s film school. It played at over 60 film festivals and won over 20 awards including an Honorable Mention at Sundance. It was shot on location in Newton, Massachusetts by Rob Hauer, one of this year’s Filmmaker Magazine “25 filmmakers to watch” and it is the basis of Rob’s first feature, A Birder’s Guide to Everything, which he co-wrote with Luke Matheny.
In the fall of 2010, Momentum Worldwide commissioned RMF to create a series of short films for Hudson Whiskey. The result of this collaboration is an overview film (featured here), as well as one short for each of their five products: Single Malt, Corn Whiskey, Baby Bourbon, Manhattan Rye, and 4-Grain. A small but dedicated film crew shot at Hudson’s tiny distillery in Gardiner, NY. We set out to capture the passion of these craftsmen, the hand-made nature of the endeavor, and the philosophy, texture, and even the smell of their beloved whiskey.
Working again with Momentum Worldwide, RMF made a series of films for Balvenie Whiskey, a single malt scotch. In 2011, Balvenie’s two US ambassadors, Andrew Weir and Nicholas Pallocchi, made an epic road trip across the United States in a handmade Morgan, visiting craftsmen who still use traditional artisanal methods. While the Scots made stops all over the country, RMF focused on their trips to New Orleans, San Francisco, and New York. On the strength of these films, Balvenie commissioned an additional film that celebrated their own traditional processed at their distillery in Dufftown, Scotland.
RMF has partnered with Concrete Brands to make much of the video content for Lia Sophia, a jewelry brand that is sold exclusively by its 30,000 advisors. Weekly YouTube pieces feature Elena Kiam, the creative director, talking about exciting new pieces, looks and trends; behind the scenes videos celebrate the making of the brand’s catalogues; short films capture the excitement of Lia Sophia at Fashion Week; sizzle reel pieces highlight their many appearances in films, TV and in the press; and finally, RMF has made several special videos featuring the Kiam family and the celebrity friends of the company such as Clinton Kelly and Petra Nemcova.
Rob Meyer Films has to date made 12 short films for Everything But Water, a resort-wear company. Under new branding spearheaded by Bob Weinstein of Concrete Brands, the company has transformed itself. These beautiful high-end videos showcase the swimwear on location in Miami, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, share the excitement of a fun getaway, capture trends such as vintage or stripes, and give viewers a look behind-the-scenes of the photo shoots.
In the spring of 2010, Focus Features hired RMF to shoot the behind-the-scenes and the electronic press kit (EPK) for the feature film Jane Eyre, directed by Cary Fukunaga. Shot on location in Derbyshire, England, RMF covered all elements of filmmaking along with in-depth interviews with its key crew members and actors Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Judy Dench and Jamie Bell. This is one of the many featurettes created from the footage.
